Advising a Friend about visiting Canada

Dear Soaad,

How are you doing? I heard that you are coming to Canada soon so I wanted to give you some advice before you get here. First of all, you should bring a lot of warm winter clothes because it can get very cold in some parts of Canada. If you come here soon enough, you will still have time to go snowboarding or skiing before spring starts. If you are planning to come during spring, you should bring a lot of summer clothes because the weather here can get as hot as 30 degrees. There are a lot of nice and delicious foods that you can eat. My favorite Canadian breakfast is pancakes with maple syrup. Other good things to try are bagels, which are donut shaped breads. If you really want to try something new, you should try Canadian poutine.  If you are going to be here in July, don’t forget to visit the Calgary Stampede. It is a nice outdoor show that has a lot of different kinds of races and has a lot of good food. Another place I would advise you to visit is Banff, which is Canada’s oldest national park.  To summarize,  Canada is filled with so many things that you can see and try. If I’m still here, I’ll show you around when you get here. Take care and get here soon!

Your friend,

Fathia

                                 Living Safely in Calgary

In my opinion, I think that Calgary is a very safe city to live in. Most of the areas have no crime and you don’t see the police going into people’s houses to arrest bad people. And you don’t see crazy things happening in Calgary on the news. Calgary is a lot safer than my hometown in Libya since they don’t have a strong police force over there at the moment but things are getting better over there. To protect ourselves from crime, we have to choose good communities to live in that are close to police stations and we should call the police if we see something not normal around our community. We also have to have an alarm system in the house and we have to make sure that all of the doors and windows are locked before leaving the house. But even if we didn’t follow all of these steps to protect ourselves, Calgary is still a safe city to live in.

                                                                                 My Wonderful Holiday

A few years ago I went on a vacation to Egypt with my family. The weather was very hot and humid which made me drink a lot of fluids. We visited many places including the pyramids, Pharaonics village and many museums. We also went on a boat ride on the Nile river. We stayed in Cairo which is the capital city of Egypt. The streets there are always crowded even during the night. We also visited Hurghada. My children mostly enjoyed swimming in the beach. I really enjoyed visiting Egypt with my family and I hope in the future that I could visit it again.

10 MILLION DOLLARS!!!

If I won 10 million dollars in the lottery!

Firstly, I would take the money in yearly payments instead of taking the entire amount all at once. This will reduce any mistakes I could do in handling my money, so that I don't lose it all. I will then pay off all of my debts and start to save the money that I don't need right away. Secondly,  I will try to live my life as normally as possible. I will keep my job and I will not buy anything too expensive, such as a large house in Europe, or a nice expensive car. I will make sure that I have enough money to help out my children so that they too will live a nice and comfortable life.  Finally, I will give some of my money to charities so that people that are not as lucky as me could live an easier life.
Although  winning the lottery can completely change my life, I still would not play the lottery. This is because in Libya and most Muslim countries, the lottery is not allowed. This is due to religious reasons, where in Islam, gambling with your money is not allowed.
