The Interpreter Review

I really enjoyed reading the book “The Interpreter.” I found the story very interesting and I found the characters interesting as well. My favorite characters were Silvia Broome and Tobin Keller. I liked Silvia because she wanted the truth to be told and because she has a lot of secrets from her past and they were all shocking. I liked Tobin because he is very smart and he also cares a lot about his friends. I think that other ESL readers will also enjoy this book since the story is interesting and since the vocabulary is not very hard.

My Favorite Video Game

When I was a child video games were not invented yet and I liked to play outside more than I liked playing with board games. But when my children were little I stated to play video games with them. Our favorite game to play together was Super Mario Brothers on the Super Nintendo. In this game we took turns playing with a man named Mario and we tried to save the princess in the game by finishing the level. In the levels we would have to swim, fly and jump over turtles and we got to ride on Mario’s friend Yoshi. I haven’t played this game in a long time but I know that the Mario games are still popular since they always come up with new games and I always see them when I walk around the stores like Wall-Mart and Toys R Us.

Summer is the best!

Summer time in Banff
My favorite season of the year is summer. Summer is the best season in my opinion because the weather outside is always nice. Also, I get to spend a lot of time with my children since they are on their summer vacations from school. I like going out with my family to parks and on trips to Banff and to Jasper. The scenery is always beautiful over there during that time of the year. Over here in Calgary we also have a lot of things to do during the summer. After spending many months in the cold and snow, it is nice seeing my children playing in a green front and backyard.  The Calgary Stampede is also something else that we enjoy during the summer. Another reason why I like summer the most is that I get to visit my family back home in Libya for a few weeks. Even though it can sometimes get too hot over there, visiting family is always great and spending time with them at barbeques at the beach is even better. Summer is always nice and the only thing that I don’t like about it is that it is not long enough.

My ways of traveling

I have two favorite ways to travel depending on how far I have to travel from my home. If I am traveling to cities or areas around Calgary such as Banff or British Columbia, I like to travel in a car. Traveling in the car has three advantages. The first advantage is that I can enjoy the beautiful scenery that is found in Canada especially in areas around Banff, and the second advantage is that I get to talk to and make jokes with my family along the way. Also, if we get tired or hungry in our trip, we can always stop and take a break to eat. The disadvantage of this way of traveling is that it takes a long time to reach your destination. When I am traveling to places outside of Canada, I always like to go in an airplane. Traveling by plane is easy and the biggest advantage is that it is the fastest way to travel but it comes with one disadvantage, traveling in planes is very expensive.

Advising a Friend about visiting Canada

Dear Soaad,

How are you doing? I heard that you are coming to Canada soon so I wanted to give you some advice before you get here. First of all, you should bring a lot of warm winter clothes because it can get very cold in some parts of Canada. If you come here soon enough, you will still have time to go snowboarding or skiing before spring starts. If you are planning to come during spring, you should bring a lot of summer clothes because the weather here can get as hot as 30 degrees. There are a lot of nice and delicious foods that you can eat. My favorite Canadian breakfast is pancakes with maple syrup. Other good things to try are bagels, which are donut shaped breads. If you really want to try something new, you should try Canadian poutine.  If you are going to be here in July, don’t forget to visit the Calgary Stampede. It is a nice outdoor show that has a lot of different kinds of races and has a lot of good food. Another place I would advise you to visit is Banff, which is Canada’s oldest national park.  To summarize,  Canada is filled with so many things that you can see and try. If I’m still here, I’ll show you around when you get here. Take care and get here soon!

Your friend,

Fathia
